A College Kid’s Valentine’s Day

As college students, people see Valentine’s Day in two very different ways. People either hate the day and consider it “single-awareness day,” yet others consider it one of the best holidays filled with romance and love. Regardless of whether or not you have a special someone, there are plenty of ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day in college.

Rom-Coms with Your Friends

Whether you like rom-coms or not, this idea can really get you into the “lovey” spirit. There is a wide array of movies to pick from, from Bridget Jones’s BabyCrazyStupid, Love, or the more recent To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. There’s a rom-com for everyone, relationship or not, and even if you are watching the film simply to make funny commentary, it still passes the time in an enjoyable way.

Treat Yourself to a Nice Dinner

A “nice” dinner could mean different things to different people. Personally, I went out to a nice restaurant with my family, but I would have been just as happy with a heart shaped pizza from Papa Johns’. Whether you’re going out or staying in, with your boyfriend/girlfriend, your girl friends or bros, food is always a good idea.

Ladies Night

This doesn’t need to be just a Valentine’s Day event, but it is a lot more fun to celebrate with your friends when it is a holiday. Depending on what your friends like to do, a “Ladies/Dudes Night” can be practically anything you want: you could stay in and watch movies, go bowling, or have a game night. All that matters is that you spend time and have fun with your friends.

Looking toward St. Patrick’s Day…

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up, and as per usual, it’s during Spring Break! If Valentine’s Day is not your preferred holiday, plan something extra fun for St. Patrick’s Day! Last year my friends and I took advantage of the days off and took a trip to Chicago to see the green river. This was a lot of fun for us even the people who have been to Chicago before. We took pictures by the green river, got ice cream at Ghirardelli, and went and saw “the bean”. It was a blast and something I highly recommend doing.  Éire go Brách
